
Below is a list of some basic policies that must be adhered to during your stay at FLETC.
FLETC Policies

Leave of Absence
Annual leave is not normally granted while students are in training.

Leave may be approved in special situations, but only if the appropriate program manager and the student’s agency representative both agree the request is reasonable.

For an illness contact the center physician. Monday through Friday From 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This excludes government holidays.

Students are responsible for any charges related to medical care received outside the Center Health Unit.

Automobiles
All drivers must have a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and proof of insurance, or written authorization from the registered owner to operate the vehicle.

Students living on FLETC property are not allowed to drive to class from Monday through Friday. Student parking during these days is restricted to their assigned dormitory parking areas.

Motorcycles may not be operated on federal property without a helmet approved for use.

Parking waivers for special circumstances may be requested through the Health Unit, with final approval from the Security Office.

Illegal parking of any vehicle personal, government-owned, or rental may result in loss of driving privileges on the Center.

Colors
FLETC observes a daily military tradition known as “Colors” to honor the American flag.

Morning Colors takes place each day at 8:00 a.m. and involves:

Raising the American flag

Playing the national anthem
-

Evening Colors occurs at sunset, when:

The flag is lowered
-
The song "Retreat" is played
-

During Colors, civilians outdoors should:

Stop walking or activity
-
Face the flag (or face the direction of the music if the flag isn’t visible)

Vehicles within sight or hearing of the ceremony must:

Stop

Safely pull to the side of the road
-
Remain stopped until the carry-on signal is given

Cameras
Taking identifiable photos of students or staff without their permission is prohibited.

Some agency personnel may not be photographed under any circumstances due to their roles in undercover work.

This policy is intended to protect the identities and safety of law enforcement personnel.

The policy does not prohibit:

“Fond memory” photos (e.g., informal group pictures with consent)
-
Photography required as part of a training course

Accommodations
FLETC provides reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities upon request.

Requests may include:

TDD (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf) access

Wheelchair-accessible transportation (e.g., lifts)

Sign language interpreters

Computer enhancements or assistive technology

Students must contact their agency or organization representative before class begins to allow time for arrangements.

Valuables
Students are strongly encouraged not to leave valuables unattended in their dorm rooms.

Dormitory rooms are equipped with lockable cabinets for securing personal items.

The responsibility for safeguarding valuables lies with each individual student.

Be cautious and take steps to protect your belongings.
-
Personal weapons will not be stored by the Firearms Division.

Students should not bring personal weapons to FLETC.

Weapons
All personal and issued weapons must be checked in upon arrival.

Only Center-issued weapons may be used on the firing ranges.

Students are strictly prohibited from possessing any weapons or ammunition—whether personal or issued—on their person, in their dorm rooms, or in their vehicles.
